The Open Has Started! The Open Has Started!

That's right all you dimple heads out there. The (British) Open is officially under way! Here are some early scores for you before I get started...

Well I was looking for 2009 British Open scores, but it seems that they are only showing the Leaderboard from 1977. That's right, Tom Watson is leading after his first round, 5-under 65.

Wow. I don't even really know what to say, but hey, keep it up old man!

So, let's try again.

1. Tom Watson -5
T2. John Senden -4
T2. Steve Stricker
T2. Camilo Villegas
T2. Stewart Cink
T2. Mathew Goggin

T7. Mark Calcavecchia -3
T7. Mark O'Meara
T7. Vijay Singh
T7. Boo Weekley
T7. Andres Romero (Through 8 Holes...I'll keep it updated.)

As for Tiger...he's tied for 70th at +1. Ouch. Probably not the way the big dog wanted to start his run at a 4th British Open Title. Oh well.

Let's talk about Turnberry. This is the first time that The Open has been played at Turnberry since 1994 when Nick Price took home the Claret Jug. People are drawing comparisons to the 1977 Championship when Watson and Jack Nicklaus had their famous "Duel in the Sun" which saw Watson beat the Golden Bear by 1-stroke. Tom Watson is 59 this year, and was 27 when he took down Nicklaus all those years ago. It's unbelievable, and awesome, that a living legend like Tom Watson is still performing the same way he did when he was half his age. Maybe it's the spray from the waters of the Firth of Clyde acting as a Fountain of Youth for Watson. Maybe he just knows this course really, really well. Either way, I wish all the luck in the world to Tom Watson, but some other golfers are already liking the conditions as well and will probably catch up, if not pass Mr. Watson, before the day is over.

Leaderboard check.

Three players have joined the -3 Club, and are still playing. Branden Grace, Andres Romero and Paul Casey are on holes 18, 9 and 6 respectively. Could be a REALLY good day for these guys! I really love golf and can't wait to play with Amanda on Monday for my birthday. My Fiancee wants to golf. Could life be any better?
